Your DVD/CD drive shows in device manager, but not in windows

Wednesday April 8, 2009 at 10:26am

Are you having problems using your optical drive? Does your drive appear in device manager but when you open windows explorer/my computer, the does the drive not show? If so then the following could be the fix you need!

In device manager, the yellow triangle indicates the device is not functioning properly or the drivers are corrupt (error code 39). Reinstalling the device however does not fix the problem.

To resolve this you need to edit the registry settings. (Do so at your own risk and only if you are comfortable using this feature!)

Click start>run and type regedit.exe

Then browse to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Right click and delete ‘UPPERFILTERS’ in the right hand pane.

Exit regedit, reboot the machine, and the device will automatically reinstall the drivers to resolve the problem.
