As per my previous post about ADSL2 arriving in Leamington Spa and Warwick, it is now being rolled out in Coventry.
With ADSL2+ your maximum download speed is 21Mb and maximum upstream is 1.5Mb. This is heavily dependent on the telephone line length and its quality, but it is a significant improvement on the old version!
If you would like to upgrade to this new service please contact us with your router’s make and model number and we’ll let you know your most economical route to a faster internet connection!

If you have recently configured your iPhone or iTouch with your work email address and your company uses Small Business Server or SBS 2008 then you may well be experiencing a very annoying problem! (We discovered this when working with one of our clients in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire).
Once you have configured your iPhone or iTouch
(as per our instructions here) you are required to enter a ‘passcode’ every few minutes in order to use your iPhone. To resolve this issue you need to make some changes to your Exchange server as follows.
Making changes to your server should not be undertaken lightly as making the wrong changes will cause catastrophic problems. If you do not feel confident doing this please
contact us and we can arrange to do this for you.
Exchange Management Console > Organization Configuration > Client Access > Windows SBS Mobile Mailbox Policy > Password. Please be aware that switching off the passcode altogether means that you cannot remotely wipe the handset if lost or stolen.

One of our clients recently asked me to take a look at her email signature as something didn’t seem quite right. When she clicked ‘new message’ her regular signature along with the company logo was 3 times its normal size!
I tried a number of things including deleting the signature and starting again but to no avail. The problem was still apparent, until i realised that when she sent a message, the signature appeared as normal to the recipient. After some rooting around, i found there is a zoom/magnifier tool managed by holding the 'control key', and scrolling the mouse wheel forward or back to zoom in or out respectively.
So simple yet so frustrating if you can’t figure it out!

I am delighted to inform you that the Leamington and Warwick telephone exchange has now been fully enabled with “ADSL2+”. This is the latest and fastest version of broadband available in the UK.
Previously the best service was ‘DSL Max’ which means your current maximum download speed is 8Mb, and maximum upstream is 0.4Mb. This speed is heavily dependent on the length of your phone line from the telephone exchange, and the speed you actually receive maybe less than half this.
With ADSL2+ your maximum download speed is 21Mb and maximum upstream is 1.5Mb. This is also heavily dependent on the telephone line length and its quality, but it is a significant improvement on the old version!
Depending which ISP you use there is generally no monthly cost difference for the new service, but you may need to replace or upgrade your router to get access to these new speeds in full. If your router is already labelled as ADSL2+ compatible you should be able to take full advantage of these speeds without changing equipment however the router may need reconfiguring or require a software upgrade.
If you would like to upgrade to this new service please contact us with your router’s make and model number and we’ll let you know your most economical route to a faster internet connection!

Earlier today I had a call from a client wanting to set up an exchange account on a new laptop.
However, when I opened Vista’s Control Panel I found that the mail icon was not there. Without this you are unable to open the Outlook profile properties and configure the accounts.
After some searching i found that Vista Home x64 bit edition has a second Control Panel window with the Java and Mail icons. To get to it - open Control Panel and click on 32 Bit Control Panel items. You can then configure an exchange account as normal. This applies to any Vista x64 Bit Edition Operating System.

I knew theoretically it was possible to use an iPhone or itouch with an Exchange 2003 Server, using Outlook Web Access, as I have successfully done this with several Blackberry’s. I have also found some instructions on the Apple website about using the iPhone or iTouch with Exchange directly, but not via Outlook Web Access.
I have successfully managed to do this now, and it works very well indeed. This is how i did it:
http://www.impirius.co.uk/Support/How-to-setup-an-Exchange-email-account-on-an-iPhone-or-iTouch-using-OWA.aspx
I have created a separate page for this there's a bit too much information for a blog article!

I had a problem today where a customer could not attach a particular PDF document to an email in Outlook 2003. They had been attaching the document fine earlier in the day and then all of a sudden it just would not attach. When selecting the document the following error would appear: -
"Can't create file: Right-click the folder you want to create the file in, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permissions for the folder"
I tried copying the file to a new folder and the problem still persisted. Other documents were fine, it was just this single one. I then did some searching about and discovered that the problem lied with Outlook's temporary files. To solve the problem I did the following: -
1. Open REGEDIT.EXE and go to Edit -> Find... In the Find dialog box type "OutlookSecureTempFolder" without the quotes and locate that registry key.
2. That key will contain the actual folder location, and will look like:
C:\Documents and Settings\%USER_NAME%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK#\ (where # is a random letter or number)
3. Copy the location of that folder.
4. Click on Start -> Run... and paste the folder location from step #4 then click OK.
5. Windows Explorer will open that folder. Please, delete all files present.
6. Restart Microsoft Outlook and you should be able to open your attachments.
After doing the above the file attached fine no problems!!

I was trying to install some software on a clients PC today and I kept getting the error - Demoshield has encountered a problem and needs to close. No matter what account I tried to install the software under, the program would not install.
I eventually found the problem was to do with Quicktime. To solve the problem I had to carry out the following: -
- Uninstall the current version and delete the Quicktime folder from program files.
- Go to the apple website and download the latest version for your OS
- Install Quicktime, and Demoshield will now run properly.
After doing the above the software installed and ran fine!

Are you having problems using your optical drive? Does your drive appear in device manager but when you open windows explorer/my computer, the does the drive not show? If so then the following could be the fix you need!
In device manager, the yellow triangle indicates the device is not functioning properly or the drivers are corrupt (error code 39). Reinstalling the device however does not fix the problem.
To resolve this you need to edit the registry settings. (Do so at your own risk and only if you are comfortable using this feature!)
Click start>run and type regedit.exe
Then browse to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Right click and delete ‘UPPERFILTERS’ in the right hand pane.
Exit regedit, reboot the machine, and the device will automatically reinstall the drivers to resolve the problem.
